Configurations of SSRR-Based Microstrip Capacitor Sensor for Castrol Oil Level Measurement in Space Applications

Abstract:

In this research work, two configurations of split squared ring resonators (SSRRs) based capacitor sensors for space applications is presented. The proposed sensors are used to measure the synthetic oil levels in the storage tank and to determine the quality of these oils. In this research work, Castrol which is synthetic oil is used. The proposed SSRR capacitor sensors are planar in nature and are used to measure synthetic Castrol oil level. The measured capacitances of both the SSRR capacitor sensor configurations without oil immersion are 8 pF and 11 pF respectively. Further, the oil level is measured at different values using both SSRR capacitor sensors and the obtained results of oil level and capacitance variations are linear in nature and found in good agreement. These capacitive sensors are useful in space technologies.
